Adopt-A-Park Program

ADOPT-A-PARK PROGRAM
A Salem, NH Recreation Program

What's the Program About?

The Adopt-A-Park Program is run by the Salem Recreation Department. It allows individuals or groups to voluntarily sponsor a park and support the Town’s park maintenance program in a more direct way.

The program offers the opportunity to make a contribution to the community while generating positive publicity for the group or individual’s service activities.

What does a sponsor group do?

Each qualified sponsor takes responsibility for litter control in a Town of Salem, NH Park. The sponsor agrees to pick up litter and light organic debris at least four times a year between April 1 and November 1 for two years. The sponsor agrees to report any other problems that they may encounter while cleaning the park.

Who can sponsor a park?

Any individual or group can be a sponsor. Examples would include businesses, youth groups and organizations, families and others. Each sponsor should provide adequate adult supervision for younger workers. The Salem Recreation Department recommends that all workers should be at least 9 years of age or in the 4th grade. No other individuals should be in the work area.

After completing a one year commitment, a plaque announcing to the general public your group's sponsorship will be installed near your park's sign. Names must fit within the maximum of three lines. You will find specific information on the application form.

The Recreation Department reserves the right to work with the sponsors in revising group names or acronyms that may be offensive to the public.

Emphasis on Safety

The Adopt-A-Park Program will be carried out with an emphasis on safety. It is important to be very careful when working in the parks. Guidelines regarding safety concerns are found on the application form. Safety meetings to reiterate safety guidelines to workers must be held by the sponsor at the beginning of each clean-up day.

How can you apply?

Just call (603) 890-2140 from 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday thru Friday. Leave your name, address, phone number and where you wish to sponsor a park. We will send you an application/permit kit which fully explains the details of the program. Simply fill out the form and return it to the Town of Salem Recreation Department.
